   9   statistical computing and graphics. It is a GNU project which is similar to
  10   the S language and environment which was developed at Bell Laboratories by
  11   J<name|ohn Chambers> and colleagues. R can be considered as a different
  12   implementation of S. There are some important differences, but much code
  13   written for S runs unaltered under R.

  15   R provides a wide variety of statistical (linear and nonlinear modelling,
  16   classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification,
  17   clustering, ...) and graphical techniques, and is highly extensible. The S
  18   language is often the vehicle of choice for research in statistical
  19   methodology, and R provides an Open Source route to participation in that
  20   activity.

  22   A first experimental interface with <TeXmacs> has been written by
  23   <name|Michael Lackmann>. This allows you to use R interactively inside
  24   <TeXmacs> and to easily include tables and the high quality plots from R
  25   into your scientific papers.
