   8   GNU <name|Octave> is a high-level language, primarily intended for
   9   numerical computations. It provides a convenient command line interface for
  10   solving linear and nonlinear problems numerically, and for performing other
  11   numerical experiments using a language that is mostly compatible with
  12   <name|Matlab>. It may also be used as a batch-oriented language.

  14   <name|Octave> has extensive tools for solving common numerical linear
  15   algebra problems, finding the roots of nonlinear equations, integrating
  16   ordinary functions, manipulating polynomials, and integrating ordinary
  17   differential and differential-algebraic equations. It is easily extensible
  18   and customizable via user-defined functions written in <name|Octave>'s own
  19   language, or using dynamically loaded modules written in C++, C, Fortran,
  20   or other languages.

  22   A first experimental interface between <TeXmacs> and GNU <name|Octave> has
  23   been written by <name|Michael Graffam>. Unfortunately, we get little help
  24   from the main <name|Octave> developers for the improvement of the interface
  25   and the integration of patches into the mainline of <name|Octave>. So, if
  26   you like the idea of using <name|Octave> from inside <TeXmacs>, then please
  27   help advertising it.
