   5 GNU TeXmacs is a free scientific text editor, which was both inspired
   6 by TeX and GNU Emacs. The editor allows you to write structured documents
   7 via a wysiwyg (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) and user friendly interface.
   8 New styles may be created by the user. The program implements high-quality
   9 typesetting algorithms and TeX fonts, which help you to produce
  10 professionally looking documents.

  12 The high typesetting quality still goes through for automatically
  13 generated formulas, which makes TeXmacs suitable as an interface
  14 for computer algebra systems. TeXmacs also supports the Guile/Scheme
  15 extension language, so that you may customize the interface and
  16 write your own extensions to the editor.

  18 TeXmacs currently runs on PC's and PPC's under Gnu/linux
  19 (a >200MHz processor and >32Mb of memory are recommended)
  20 and on sun computers. Converters exist for TeX/LaTeX and
  21 they are under development for Html/Mathml/Xml.
  22 In the future, TeXmacs is planned to evoluate towards
  23 a complete scientific office suite, with spreadsheet capacities,
  24 a technical drawing editor and a presentation mode.
