   1 MBROLA is a speech synthesizer based on the concatenation of
   2 diphones. It takes a list of phonemes as input, together with prosodic
   3 information (duration of phonemes and a piecewise linear description
   4 of pitch), and produces speech samples on 16 bits (linear), at the
   5 sampling frequency of the diphone database.

   7 It is therefore NOT a Text-To-Speech (TTS) synthesizer, since it does
   8 not accept raw text as input.  In order to obtain a full TTS system,
   9 you need to use this synthesizer in combination with a text processing
  10 system that produces phonetic and prosodic commands.

  12 This software is the heart of the MBROLA project, the aim of which is
  13 to obtain a set a speech synthesizers for as many languages as
  14 possible, free of use for non-commercial applications.

  16 As such, it requires an MBROLA language/voice database to run
  17 properly.  American English, Brazilian Portuguese, Breton, British
  18 English, Croatian, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Romanian, Spanish and
  19 Swedish voices are made available. Additional languages and voices
  20 will be available in the context of the MBROLA project.
