30 <para>This module is designed to allow you to easily select different
31 fonts for different parts of the
&kde; Desktop.
</para>
33 <para>The panel consists of different font groups to give you a lot of
34 flexibility in configuring your fonts:
</para>
37 <listitem><para><guilabel>General:
</guilabel> Used everywhere the other font
38 groups don't apply
</para></listitem>
40 <listitem><para><guilabel>Fixed width:
</guilabel> Anywhere a
41 non-proportional font is specified
</para></listitem>
43 <!-- <listitem><para><guilabel>File Manager</guilabel> (Font to use in the
44 &kde; file manager)</para></listitem> -->
46 <listitem><para><guilabel>Toolbar:
</guilabel> Font used in
&kde; application
47 toolbars
</para></listitem>
49 <listitem><para><guilabel>Menu:
</guilabel> Font used in
&kde; application
50 menus
</para></listitem>
52 <listitem><para><guilabel>Window title:
</guilabel> Font used in the window
53 title
</para></listitem>
55 <listitem><para><guilabel>Taskbar:
</guilabel> Font used in the taskbar
56 panel applet
</para></listitem>
58 <listitem><para><guilabel>Desktop:
</guilabel> Font used on the desktop
59 to label icons
</para></listitem>
63 <para>Each font has a corresponding
<guibutton>Choose...
</guibutton>
64 button. By clicking on this button, a dialog box appears. You can
65 use this dialog box to choose a new font, font style, size and
66 character set. Then press
<guibutton>OK
</guibutton>.
</para>
68 <para>An example of the font you have chosen will be displayed in the space
69 between the font group name and the
<guibutton>Choose...
</guibutton>
72 <para>When you are done, simply click
<guibutton>OK
</guibutton>, and
73 all necessary components of
&kde; will be restarted so your changes
74 can take affect immediately.
</para>
76 <para>The
<guibutton>Adjust All Fonts...
</guibutton> button allows you to
77 quickly set properties for all the fonts selected
78 above. A font selection dialog similar to the standard one will
79 appear, but you will notice checkboxes that allow you to change the
80 <guilabel>Font
</guilabel>,
<guilabel>Font style
</guilabel> or
81 <guilabel>Size
</guilabel> independently of each other. You can
82 choose any one, two, or three of these options, and they will be
83 applied to all the font groups.
</para>
85 <para>For example, if you have selected several different font faces
86 above, and realize they are all a size too big (this often happens
87 when you change screen resolution, for instance), you can apply a new
88 font size to all the fonts, without affecting your customized font
89 faces and styles.
</para>
92 <title>Anti-alias text
</title>
94 <para>To use anti-aliasing, simply place a mark in the checkbox labeled
95 <guilabel>Use anti-aliasing for fonts
</guilabel>.
</para>
97 <para>Placing a mark in the checkbox will allow you to specify which range of
98 fonts will
<emphasis>not
</emphasis> be anti-aliased. This range is specified
99 with the two combo boxes on the same line.
</para>
101 <para>You can also choose the method that
&kde; uses to create an anti-alias
102 look to your fonts, and how strongly it should be applied. If you are not
103 familiar with the individual methods, you should leave this option
106 <!-- FIXME: Cop-out, I need to write a 'hinting and AA for beginners'
107 paragraph in here -->
110 The ability to use anti-aliased fonts and icons requires that you have
111 support in both X and the
&Qt; toolkit, that you have suitable fonts
112 installed, and that you are using the built-in font serving capabilities
113 of the X server. If you still are having problems, please contact the
114 appropriate
&kde; mailing list, or check the

</acronym>.
