  39 is a controlled security hole that allows a process to gain I/O
  40 privileges
  41 (which are normally reserved for kernel-internal code).
  42 Any process that holds a file descriptor on

  46 bits in the flag register set, thus allowing it to perform direct
  47 I/O operations.  This can be useful in order to write userland
  48 programs that handle some hardware directly.
