45 I'm walkin' through the summer nights
47 the jukebox playing low
49 yesterday everything was goin' too fast
51 Today it's movin' too slow
</pre>
55 I got no place left to turn
57 I got nothin' left to burn
</pre>
61 Don't know if I saw you if I would kiss you or kill you
63 It probably wouldn't matter to you anyhow
65 You left me standing in the doorway cryin'
67 I got nothin' to go back to now.
70 The light in this place is so bad
71 Makin' me sick in the head
72 All the laughter is just makin' me sad
73 The stars have turned cherry red
74 I'm strummin' on my gay guitar
76 The ghost of our old love has not gone away
77 Don't look it like it will anytime soon
78 You left me standin' in the doorway cryin'
79 Under the midnight moon.
81 Maybe they'll get me and maybe they won't
82 But not tonight and it won't be here
83 There are things I could say, but I don't
84 I know the mercy of God must be near
85 I been ridin a midnight train
86 Got ice water in my veins
87 I would be crazy if I took you back
88 It would go up against every rule
89 You left me standin' in the doorway cryin'
90 Sufferin' like a fool.
92 When the last rays of daylight go down
93 Buddy you'll roll no more
94 I can hear the church bells ringin' in the yard
95 I wonder who they're ringin' for
97 But my heart just won't give in
98 Last night I danced with a stranger
99 But she just reminded me you were the one
100 You left me standin' in the doorway cryin'
101 In the dark land of the sun.
103 I eat when I'm hungry drink when I'm dry
104 And live my life on the square
105 And even if the flesh falls off of my face
106 I know someone will be there to care
107 It always means so much
108 Even the softest touch
109 I see nothing to be gained by any explanation
110 There's no words that need to be said
111 You left me standin' in the doorway cryin'
112 Blues wrapped around my head.

116 <p>New arrangement during the
2003 southern US tour. The basic structure of the
117 song is the same as the album version, but a new riff has snuck into the first
118 part, with the chords in the descent coming
119 <a href=
"../00_misc/on_a_rainy_afternoon.htm#twiceasslow">twice as fast
</a> and
120 with an extra turn at the end. In the version that has been available to me
121 (Austin,
20 April
2003) it sounds as if the two different guitars are in two
122 different capo positions: the main rhythm guitar at the
3rd fret and the other
123 at the
1st fret. I have given suggestions for the main riff in those two
124 positions. In the
3rd position there are two suggestions, one which is more or
125 less what is played by the band, the other a version which is more suitable for
126 a single guitar. In the
1st-fret version I have included the chords to the whole
128 <p>The Am (Bm with capo
1st fret) could also be played F (G)
</p>
130 <p>Capo
3rd fret (sounding key Eb major)
