        * configure: be less sensitive to spaces in Makefile.in.  Do not
          look for sources in "..".  Doing so breaks subdirectories that

          and shift gpl to v2.  Added ChangeLog if it didn't exist. docdir
          and mandir now keyed off datadir by default.
