Applied B. Gschaider's Mac OS X Patches versions 1 and 3
With minor changes to make it apply cleanly, removed everything
belonging to the wmake build system and the changes in etc/.
Also fixed some white-space errors and removed changes specific to
MacPorts (gaddr2line). Fixed some old-style casts.
SKIPPED VERSION 2 BECAUSE THAT ONE ONLY DEALS WITH WMAKE AND ETC/.
