fdopenres - modified xdg-open. The difference is that it doesn't use file opening tools, supplied by known DE (kde-open, gvfs-open, exo-open), using only plain method, which wait for application termination appart to just listed, thus allowing better control (it could be run by simple session managers, which don't need special support by applications, like LADI session handler and non-session-manager).
