Build system improvements
Simplified the dist target, focusing on rm safety.
Doxygen docs disttar will no longer be built.
I am leaning toward ditching doxygen altogether. The output is
too verbose and voluminous to be useful. Just read the headers.
Verified cold make boot (without running configure first)
No, you should not do this, but amazingly enough, it does work.
