Re-add build support for kernel 2.6.24 and 2.6.25
This commit adds back build support for the 2.6.24 and 2.6.25 kernels
after the latest changes which allowed compilation under a 2.6.26
kernel.
The build has been tested against a 2.6.24 kernel, but might need some
minor tweaking for the 2.6.25 kernel.
Also, some minor trailing white space cleanups have been performed.
